Caring for Our Chakras during a Pandemic
Our Chakras Are Blocked
Limit your trips out of the house, wash your hands often, wear a mask in public, stay 6 feet away from others, exercise at least 30 minutes a day, get 7-8 hours of sleep a night, eat a nutritious diet, stay hydrated…
These are all great reminders that we have been hearing everyday throughout this pandemic- reminders that will keep us healthy. However, while we’re doing our best to flatten the curve and stay behind closed doors, the doors to our chakras are likely closed as well.
Refocus Energy
Everything in our universe radiates energy, and our chakras are the channels located at certain points of our body that allow the energy flow in and out. The word chakra means “wheel”. There are 7 main wheels on the energetic layer of our body that spin in a clockwise motion to release our energy into the world, and also spin counterclockwise to pull energy from the external world into our body.
They are called the Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye, and Crown, and each chakra ties directly to physical organs and systems, your consciousness, and emotions. Certain stressors and changes in our lives may cause the chakras to close and disrupt the flow of energy. Chances are, the stress of this pandemic and the lack of the face-to-face interaction that we’re used to is causing our energy centers to close.
I’m going to go into depth on how 3 of these chakras are particularly affected by this and what we can do to care for ourselves energetically during this time and get the flow moving again.

Your Root Chakra
Your root chakra is located at the base of your spine. When this energy center is blocked, it is common to experience anxiety, lack of focus, financial lack, worry, doubt, and poor boundaries. If that doesn’t scream global pandemic, I don’t know what does! With our country shutting down, financial lack is inevitable. Some are without jobs, while others are working from home.
Those of us working from home are experiencing the lack of focus from being out of our element and possibly developing poor boundaries that come with the challenges of time management while working in your personal space. Our front-line, essential workers are likely experiencing anxiety and worry of being exposed to the virus and spreading it to family and others. It’s safe to say all of us have experienced some, if not all of these feelings throughout this uncertain time.
get outside, get grounded
Some exercises for opening and balancing the root chakra are getting barefoot and connecting with the ground (this is best done out in nature). Standing up straight, stomping your feet, diffusing grounding aromas such as patchouli, sandalwood, Aveda’s chakra 1 blend, and most importantly, bring awareness to any thoughts or feelings of anxiety, lack, or financial insecurity. Allow yourself to feel those feelings, take a deep inhale, and then expel them as you exhale. Some affirmations you can say are “I am safe”, “I am abundant”, “I am grounded”, and “I am aligned”.

your solar plexus
Your solar plexus is the chakra located in your abdomen. When this energy center is blocked, it is common to experience a lack of self-esteem, a lack of motivation and discipline, and a lack of control. It seems that in this pandemic there is a lot that is out of our control, and this lack of power is what can cause the solar plexus to close.
The disruption of our routines and structure can cause a lack of motivation and discipline, no doubt!
When this chakra is open and balanced you will experience mental focus, willpower, productivity, and confidence.
try tree pose
To open and balance this chakra practice yoga, or stand in poses that replicate strength and stability (tree pose, warrior), diffuse energizing aromas such as mint, lemon, orange, and Aveda’s Chakra 3 blend, and feel your breath fill your abdomen with each inhale and flatten with each exhale. Some affirmations you can say are “I am powerful”, “I am confident”, “I am assertive”, and “I am focused”.

Your Throat Chakra
Your throat chakra is located in your throat and neck. When this energy center is blocked, it is common to experience a lack of creativity, the feeling of being unheard, and maybe even compulsive behaviors and overeating. Communication and social interaction have a definite effect on your throat chakra.
Not being able to interact face to face as well as relying on technology and virtual communication are most definitely blocking the flow of energy.
The absolute best way to open and balance this chakra is simple, it’s singing. Sing your favorite song, sing in the shower, take a drive and sing in the car, sing as you fold laundry, and smile while you sing. Sing to songs that match your feelings and allow you to express yourself.
SING OR CHAT IN PERSON
Another way to open this chakra, is allowing time in your home for human interaction. Turn off the television, put your phone in another room, and enjoy face to face conversation with your family members. You can diffuse balancing aromas sage, frankincense, peppermint Aveda’s Chakra 5 blend. Some affirmations you can say are “I am positive”, “I communicate clearly”, “I am expressive”, “I am an active listener”, and “I am content”.
I encourage everyone to do some research on chakras and learn how balancing these energy centers can really change the way you feel and how well your body systems work.
Try Chakra Massage
I recommend trying our Chakra Balancing Massage Treatment. It is an 80 minute service that includes Reflexology, a blend of Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage focusing on the head, neck, shoulders, and back, as well as energy work and guided meditation to open and align the 7 main chakras in your body. I think it would be perfect treatment to help you smoothly transition to the new normal life.
