
Summer Skin Routine: Oily

The warm, humid weather that summer brings means it’s prime breakout time. Humidity stimulates oil production, which settles in your pores and clogs them. Plus heat opens up pores even more and causes you to sweat, making skin vulnerable to acne causing bacteria.
I’m a big believer in Aveda products since I’ve been using it for over 22 years for myself and my guests. Give your skin radiance and glow with these helpful tips and tricks to follow. You’ll be skin care pro in a snap!
AM Routine
Your skin has different needs depending on the time of the day. That’s why there is an AM and PM routine for better and healthier skin.
In the morning your skin needs protection from environmental aggression. Things like pollution, sun, dust and debris can really effect your skin’s health.
1: Cleanse | All-Sensitive Cleaner
This milky cleanser will gently cleanse your skin in the morning. Rinse well.
2: Tone | Toning Mist
This toner refreshes and balances your skin while helping dissolve surface oil. The rose water mist smells amazing in the morning, too!
3: Moisturize | Botanical Kinetics Oil Control Lotion
This is the perfect summertime moisturizer. It’s very light and the salicylic acid controls oiliness. Even though your skin is oily, you still need to use moisturizer to support your skins barrier function.
4: Protect | Daily Light Guard SPF 30
Never miss to wear your sunscreen. Yes, just like you won’t leave your house without your clothing.
Apply Daily Light Guard SPF 30 every morning. It’s UVA and UVB full spectrum protection for your skin. This lightweight mineral-based sunscreen won’t clog your pores or make your skin shiny.
PM Routine
Now let’s go through the nighttime routine. This is equally as important as your morning skin care. At night your skin needs to restore and repair itself.
1: Cleanse | Outer Peace Foaming Cleanser
Use this cleanser to remove your make up, dirt and debris from all day activities. The foaming cleanser has salicylic acid for oil and acne control. Rinse well with lukewarm water.
Pro tip: Never use hot water for your face.
2: Exfoliate | Outer Peace Acne Relief Pads
These pads are great to use every night. They are soaked in soothing and acne fighting salicylic acid. Wipe your skin, use both sides of the pads. It will gently yet throughly remove dead skin cells and prepare your skin for hydration.
3: Hydrate | Botanical Kinetics Oil Control Lotion
This lotion is prefect to use at night. It will hydrate and let your skin repair itself. You will wake up with healthy beautiful skin.
Bonus: Weekly Mask Routine
It can be the next step after exfoliation. Use the Deep Cleansing Herbal Clay Mask 2-3 times a week. Two active ingredients are: English kaolin and bentonite. They will draw out impurities without drying your skin.
Apply with fingertips since it’s very thick to apply with brush. Let it stay for 15-20 minutes for maximum results. Rinse well and follow with Oil Control Lotion.
Lifestyle Routine
Drink enough water for your body. I usually take count my body weight and divide in half, that number is my body’s water amount in ounces. Exercise 3-4 times a week for healthy body and mind. As we all know our skin and body changes with seasons and our lifestyle. Monthly facials are a must, to keep all your skin care recommendations current and season appropriate. Enjoy!
