Travel Essentials For Men

Over the years, mostly in the beginning, I’ve often find myself procrastinating to pack right before I leave for a trip.

This often led me to CVS or Walgreens the night before I flew out to grab last minute products.. even though I typically NEVER use these products! And often they didn’t do any justice, so had I planned things out accordingly I could’ve stocked up on the things I really love to use or at least perform better.

These days before I leave for a trip I give myself ample time to stock up on my favorite things, which ultimate makes the vacation much more enjoyable. I’ve used many things, gone through trial and error, what works what doesn’t… and decided to make a list. Here are my recommendations.

Travel Hair Products

The little things of hair paste at Walgreens never held up. It smells terrible and I usually need to use way too much of it to work and then halfway through my trip I’m already out. I’m solely convinced that for me Aveda Men is the only way to go when it comes to styling products. Most of them are 2.5 fl oz tubs which meats TSA requirements. The cream comes in a tube and can be a little bulky, so depending on the length of the trip I sometimes buy empty drams and just scoop what I need into it.

Face

I don’t know about you but when I fly for a few hours my face feels dry and I just need a little mental pick-me-up. Keep a small bottle of Aveda toning agent on hand to mist your face. It has rose water and hyaluronic acid to add moisture to your face and feels so refreshing. I never travel without this. (They may not sell travel size anymore my bottle I reuse from years ago. But you can also buy little empty mist bottles at Target).

As far as face washes go I’ll use the Aveda Gel Cleanser when I’m feeling more oily. Has a fresh natural herbal scent to it but you don’t get too dry after using it. I also love Korres Greek Yoghurt foaming cream cleanser. It’s 86.4 naturally derived and leaves your face incredibly soft.

Body

Depending on where I’m traveling to I usually bring one of two travel body washes. If its summer, or I’ll be in a hot tropical or desert climate I like to bring something more invigorating and energizing like Aveda’s Rosemary Mint Body Wash that also retails in travel size. For more of a warming feeling during the cold winter months, I really like the Sweet Tobacco body wash by 18.21 Man Made. It’s pH balanced and has the aromas of tonka bean, saffron, dried fruits, musk, sweet tobacco, and exotic wood.

Travel Toiletry Bags

Grooming Kits I bought my grooming kit from Tweezerman. The site offers different variety’s including nail clippers, tweezers, and combs. Some even include a mustache comb, and shaving brush, and most come organized in a black leather case. I typically keep this on hand in my backpack and I’m so glad I do, a number of years ago I was walking along a secluded beach in Puerto Rico and got like 5 thorns imbedded in my foot that was hiding in the sand. The tweezers really came in handy that day!

Fitness Aside from your usual workout gear, there are 3 things I like to bring with me for before and post workouts. Especially if you’re going to be in a humid hot climate. The first thing is No Sweat Body Defense by ANTHONY. It’s a lightly ‘clean’ scented white cream that applies like a lotion to your.. “private parts” to put it nicely. It dries in like 20 seconds and leaves a really smooth powdery dry texture to your skin to prevent friction and chafing.

My post workout must haves are YUNI Shower Sheets. These work great if you’re out for a run and maybe want to get a bite to eat or smoothie somewhere but don’t necessarily want to go back to the hotel right away to shower. It leaves you freshly smelling with that ‘just showered’ feeling. My second favorite post workout product is I-Recover Mind & Body Gel by INDIE LEE. It’s a fast absorbing gel to soothe sore muscles and joints (with lavender, black pepper, and patchouli oils), but still feels energizing to the mind which I love after a hard workout (menthol and eucalyptus oils).

Luggage

Last, but not least, Luggage! As a matter of fact I’m still looking for the perfect travel bag. I currently have my black Kenneth Cole travel bag which has a few compartments but its heavy and bulky. I’ve been browsing the internet looking at what’s new and popular and here’s what I found that sparked my interest:

The Baboon Go-Bag, Small. Ive seen this on different blogs and website and got rave reviews. I like that its water resistant, lightweight, and has different compartments. It’s size would be great for just a quick weekend getaway, and also meets all TSA requirements. This duffle bag also doubles as a backpack! It’s only $149 and comes in many colors (I like the yellow, black, gray, sandstorm, and crocodile green).

The L.L.Bean Personal Organizer Toiletry Bag. I love this because it can literally carry all of your toiletries you need, and contains a shower caddy and removable mirror (I like to shave in the shower so this is perfect). It has a water-resistant fabric that keeps water from getting in and spills from leaking out. $29.95 and available in many colors.

My favorite luggage bag that I came across, also a bit more of a splurge than the previous, is the Nomatic 40L Travel Bag. I need this! For one, it’s carryon size! (I rarely check luggage), it has over 20 features, its water resistant, laptop sleeve, shoe compartment, and tech organization all included.

This one is better for a 3-7 day trip, so a bit larger than a typical weekend getaway. It has over 1,200 5-star reviews and is available for $279.99.
