5 Trendy At-Home Hairstyles

Tired of messy buns everyday? I know we are! Hitting the salon as regularly as we used to may not be an option for everyone during this pandemic, but there are so many simple and trendy styles to switch up your look at home. These styles can really evolve with the seasons as well, and can be dressed up for the holidays or dressed down for a night-in. Follow along step-by-step to my five favorite easy hairstyles of the moment.

Beach Waves

These soft waves give hair beautiful volume, length, and definition. A beach wave is a loose modern curl that is perfect for almost any occasion.

What you’ll need: Hair Spray, heat protectant, & a curling iron/wand.

Step 1. Create your first section. Work in vertical sections from bottom to top. Make sure your section is not too large, so that the heat from your tool can equally distribute across the hair.

Step 2. Apply product; prep the hair with a heat protectant and hair spray.

Step 3. Start toward the root of the hair to get as much hold and volume as possible. Since this hair is not as fragile as the hair near the ends, it will be more resistant to taking the curl. Hold for a few seconds then continue to wrap the strand. When you get towards the end of the hair strand, gently pull the end of the hair to elongate the curl. If you have finer hair, you may not have to pull as much.

Step 4. Repeat Step 3 across the entire section. All of the curls should be turned the same direction.

Step 5. Create a new section. Curls will alternate direction between sections. Keep in mind, all curls should turn away from the face in the front. Continue repeating steps 2 thru 4 until you are completed.

Step 6. Finish with hairspray for hold, and enjoy your super cute beach waves!

Long Pony Tail

Big hair, big secrets. The trick to this pony tail is to exaggerate the hair to appear more voluminous and longer than it really is! This style is best for medium to long length hair.

What you’ll need: Elastic Bands, bobby pins, hair spray.

Step 1. Note: It helps to start this style out with texture in the hair like curls or waves. Create a sleek top section right above the ear, feel free to leave strands around the hairline, and use the elastic band to secure half of the hair up.

Step 2. Wrap a piece of hair around the base of the ponytail and pin it into place to hide the elastic band.

Step 3. Take the bottom section and secure it with an elastic band to create the longer cascading pieces of the pony tail.

Step 4. Gently backcomb into the underneath of the ponytail to create extra volume.

Step 5. Apply hairspray for hold, and smooth down any stray hairs.

Pull-Through braid

Pull-through braids are a great way to get lots of volume and an easy way to create a romantic loose braid.

What you’ll need: Elastic Bands, hair spray.

Step 1. Create your first section at the top of the head and tie off with an elastic band. Create more vertical sections, working your way down to the bottom of the head.

Step 2. Take your first section, and divide it into two. Pull the second section up and clip up out of the way. Band the divided pieces below the second section.

Step 3. Release the clip and let the second section fall down. Repeat step 2 with the second and third section, and so forth, until you reach the end of the braid.

Step 4. Create volume in the braid by pulling the divided sections apart.

Step 5. Apply hairspray for hold, and smooth down any stray hairs.

Half Up Half Down

Half up – Half down is a great easy fast hair style. This is a perfect look for no wash days. There are many different ways to dress up this look, so be creative! Add texture, buns, and accessories to get the most out of this look.

What you’ll need: Elastic Bands, accessories.

Step 1. Pre-style your hair to your liking. This may be by just adding a bit of product and leaving it natural, or straightening, or curling.

Step 2. Take a section of your hair and tie it with an elastic band. The section can be as big or small as you’d like. You may leave a few strands around the face to frame it as well.

Step 3. For a more finished look hide the elastic with hair, by wrapping a piece of hair and pinning it into place.

Step 4. Add any accessories or finishing products. A great alternative for hiding the elastic band are scrunchies or scarves.

Accessories!

Accessories add individuality into any hair style. My favorites I have seen so far this year are scarves, flowers, and clips. Be creative – the sky is the limit with this one.

Step 1. Create a low bun.

Step 2. Grab your favorite accessory and rock it!
